Papers : of the Tucker family, 1829-1897.

The collection begins with childhood letters of Tucker's wife Jane S. Ellis Tucker and continues through to the letters of son and daughter- in-law Beverley Dandridge Tucker and Anna Maria Washingon Tucker. These family letters convey birthday and holiday greetings, report illness and death, and describe daily activities. Letters from abroad describe an Austrian court ball and London in 1857. There are two Civil War letters from Charles Ellis Kunford and several rhymed greetings. Of great interest are 1860 and 1861 letters from N.B. Tucker discussing Democratic party politics, the election of 1860, the possibilities of secession, and his personal feelings.
